QualificationsDEVON ANCESTRY was founded in 2000. It is co-ordinated by Dr. Patrick Woodland, who has been researching family history for some thirty years. He was born and educated in Exeter, Devon and read Modern History at Lincoln College, Oxford. He has held a number of positions in higher education at Lincoln College, Oxford; St. Peter's College, Oxford; the University of Bristol; and the Open University (South West Region). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 1992. His doctoral thesis, The Cider Excise 1763-66, examined aspects of Westcountry government, politics and society in mid-18th century England. He has contributed articles to Parliamentary History, the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society Transactions, the Oxford Illustrated Encyclopaedia and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (due to be published in 2004). Dr. Woodland is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. ServicesDEVON ANCESTRY offers a comprehensive genealogical and historical research service for the county of Devon.
