Digitised images of certificates in respect of births and marriages occurring within the past 100 calendar years are not permitted. In the case, of death certificates, the limitation is 75 years. In such a case, you may order either a Transcript or Certified copy of the certificate.
A Certified copy is mandatory for passport purposes.
A Transcript contains all the information included on the actual certificate but can be emailed to you about 7-10 days faster than a certificate.
In respect of certificates for births, deaths or marriages occurring after the start of Civil Registration in 1855, you may request an email Transcript of any such entry instead of an image and will automatically be provided with one if the Agent considers that an image is too poor in quality to order.
- Copies of registrations come in the form of digitised images ... these are no different in content or appearance than the old green coloured photocopies but they are much cheaper.

- Images are available for births and marriages up to 1902 and deaths up to 1952. Transcripts will be provided for later events unless you specifically ask for a Certified copy.

Payment terms:
- New Zealand clients: payment by cheque or Money Order, made payable to Tony FitzGerald . Please note that Orders are accepted subject to the condition that payment is made promptly. Your remittance should be attached to a copy of the email and accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope (not required if Transcripts ordered). Acknowledgement that will be sent to you shortly after your Order has been received.
Delivery:
- Orders are emailed to the Edinburgh Agent upon receipt. Transcripts will be emailed to you, usually, by the Thursday of the same week. The Certificates or Images themselves usually arrive within about 10-12 days but Certified copies take a week longer to arrive.
Special Notes:
- Civil registrations started on 1 Jan 1855. Orders for earlier events are not acceptable through this page.
- Certificates cannot be viewed before purchase.
- 3. The most important requirement is that the required entry is known to actually exist either on the SRO indexes or the IGI. There is a drop-down list on the Order Form for you to state the source of your information. If you have not located the entry on one of the indexes, please select the Search required option and provide additional details in the Comments field.
- Please use the Comments box for any additional information which might aid the search. If the name is a commonly found one, a search fee may be charged by the Agent unless adequate backing up information is provided. Examples - births (parent's names); marriages (both parties names or parent names); deaths (age, spouse's name, parent's name or, in the case of a married woman, her maiden name).
- Refunds are not received in the event of an entry not being found.
